Many gamers who want a flight simulation probably never look past the excellent Microsoft Flight Simulator series. That's not to say that there haven't been other flight simulations that have been just as impressive. One of the best flight simulator series used to be Flight Unlimited from the now defunct Looking Glass Studios and in Flight Unlimited III we have what was the best game in the series. Sold Out Software have now given you the chance to own the full, 3-disk, package for the silly sum of £4.99.

Flight Unlimited III includes 10 aircraft ranging from the P-51 Mustang to the Folker DR I Tri-Plane. Scenery wise Flight Unlimited III is very limited as it focuses on Seattle. Compared to other flight simulations this seems very poor but there is a lot more detail in the terrain than you would normally expect to find and installing all of the textures for the terrain will take up a whopping 2GB (considering this game is now 6 years old, that's a lot of HDD space). The simulation includes scenarios and a flight school.

The game has the option for 'closed captions' but with that in mind not everything is subtitled which is disappointing. On release (all those years ago) the game was very glitchy and even with the supplied patch installed I still have a few issues with the simulation which does take the shine of what is a very good simulation. Are these issues down to my hardware or operating system? Both of which weren't around in 1999. Still if you're a flight simulation completist and you don't yet own a copy of Flight Unlimited III then this is a great opportunity to pick the game up on the cheap.

The Flight Unlimited series was great in it's day and for £4.99 it's a good purchase. It's a bit glitchy though and it's not fully subtitled.
